Examples of such appealing projects realised by VB are Duijvestijn Tomaten, Warmtecluster  Koekoekspolder, GreenWell Westland, GeoWebCalifornië and  Californië Wijnen Geothermie.

What is geothermal heat?

Geothermal heat is heat that is gained from the earth in order to heat greenhouses and other buildings on a sustainable way. Geothermal heat comes from the core of the earth and flows to the crust of the earth. The temperature of the earth core is approx. 2.000 to 10.000 degrees Celsius. As the crust of the earth will be approached, the temperature becomes ever lower. This heat is converted into energy. The upper 6 kilometer of the crust of the earth contains energy which is equal to 50.000 times the energy of all oil- and gas supplies in the world.

Geothermal heat is sustainable

Sustainable energy is clean energy which will never run out of stock. At the generation of geothermal heat no to little harmful effects for the environment will occur. Besides, the energy supply in the crust of the earth is nearly inexhaustible. Geothermal heat is sustainable energy and can be gained unlimited, this in contradiction to solar- or wind energy.

VB Projects has started the installation works in Wieringermeer

VB started with the installation of a heat distribution network in order to connect geothermal heat to local growing operations. Principal is Energie Combinatie Wieringermeer (ECW), which drills for geothermal heat in the greenhouse horticulture area Agriport A7. On the heat distribution network soon 8 large scale growers of vegetables will be connected. This means that for a substantial part these companies will make use of sustainable energy.

12 kilometer of district heating pipe

The first trucks with district heating tubes and components have been unloaded already and the certified welders have started the welding labour. In total approximately 12 kilometer district heating tubes will be put into the ground to the greenhouses with tube diameters of  168 mm to 355 mm. Alongside the ‘Wagenpad’ and the ‘Tussenweg’ 7 customers will be connected. Nursery ‘Wieringermeer’ will be connected directly to the source location. Most of the pipework will be installed underground. Alongside the ‘Wagenpad’ and under watercourses this will be done by directed horizontal drillings. For the communication between the source location and the customers a glass fibre cable will be installed, which is necessary for the adjustment of the whole project.

Agriport A7

he greenhouse horticultural area Agriport A7 in Middenmeer consists of several large scale greenhouse companies, who have at the moment more than 250 hectare glass for the culture of tomatoes and capsicums. The first drilling already proved that at a depth of 2600 meters water with a temperature of almost 90 degrees Celsius can be collected. Principal is ECW, a private network manager for gas and electricity.
