Nursery 4Evergreen is a modern bell pepper nursery which is part of the Grootscholte Group, and has various growing locations in the Netherlands. The family business is run by the Grootscholte family. The company's total cultivation area has already grown to 100 hectares (247 acres).
Challenge and approach
4Evergreen focuses on sustainability. In 2013, the Grootscholte family bought an existing greenhouse, already heated by VB, near Terneuzen, where residual heat and CO2 can be used from the nearby Yara fertilizer factory. Over the years, VB has also supplied 18 hectares (44 acres) and 13 hectares (32 acres) of greenhouse with climate control systems, which increases the total acreage in Westdorpe to 40 hectares (99 acres).
Results and approach
In order to ensure that 4Evergreen's bell peppers grow optimally, VB created a complete pipe rail installation and growing tube, in addition to an energy space with one backup boiler and a buffer tank with a capacity of 5,000 m3, which allows for the additional future expansion of another 5,000 m3.
